And to all international students, good morning everyone!
First of all, to our Chinese friends here today:
As a representative of the international students here at UCAS, I will continue my speech in English. I would love to share with all our Chinese friends here today how it is like for us to move to china.
You could imagine the mess we had in our heads before coming here!
Can I survive TWO years in China? It’s not just a holiday!!!
What if i can’t communicate with Chinese people?
Will i have to go to KTV?
Will I be eating anything else than rice?
But what i learned so far is that we have FAR more things in common that unite us than those minor differences that separate us.
For us, being in China is obviously a completely new setting, but let’s not forget that many of our Chinese classmates also travelled thousands of kilometres to come here. I’m certain that here at UCAS we will form a new family, and meet new friends.
I’m sure i speak on behalf of all international students when i say that we feel extremely lucky to have been welcomed at UCAS by so many incredible and friendly Chinese students and teachers.
It is safe to say that despite all fears and doubts, and all the goodbye tears and farewells, it will all be worth it.
I hope we can continue growing together, both in terms of scientific research and diplomatic relations.
So let us all embrace this adventure that we are about to start together. Let us accept the challenge, and be proud of the mission that we are on. Let’s make these years the best we’ve ever had!
